Zamek Cieszyn

Zamek w Cieszynie, wywodzący się z gotycko-renesansowego kompleksu, zbudowany na terenie dawnego grodu gołęszyckiego i kasztelańskiego na Górze Zamkowej, pełnił funkcję rezydencji Piastów cieszyńskich. W wyniku znacznych zniszczeń w trakcie wojny trzydziestoletniej, z wyjątkiem Wieży Piastowskiej i rotundy św. Mikołaja, zamek został ostatecznie rozebrany w połowie XIX wieku.

Składający się z części górnej i dolnej, zamek dolny obejmował trzy kondygnacje z podziemiem, baszty z armatami, pomieszczenia gospodarcze, zbrojownię, mieszkania dla służby dworskiej, lochy i stajnie. Zamek górny obejmował budynki mieszkalne z reprezentacyjnymi komnatami książęcymi. Na dziedzińcu znajdowała się starsza kaplica zamkowa - rotunda, otoczona potrójnym murem z basztami. Wieża, która przetrwała do dziś, pełniła funkcje mieszkalne, więzienne i strażniczo-obserwacyjne, stanowiąc jednocześnie ostatnie schronienie.
